Cardiothoracic Surgery
Aneurysm of the Thoracic Aorta
Operations on the ascending aorta for aneurysm or acute dissection are performed replacing the ascending aorta with a Dacron prosthesis. If the arch has to be replaced, a deep hypothermia is used, permitting a circulatory arrest for the whole body, nearly always sustained cerebral circulation is performed.
The descending aortic aneurysm or dissections are mostly treated with endovascular stented prosthesis.
