Valve Surgery

Our centre has a broad experience with valve surgery, with 250 to 300 operations annually.
During traditional heart valve surgery our surgeons will make an incision down the centre of your sternum (breastbone) to get direct access to your heart valve.

Minimal Invasive Heart Valve Surgery

If medically and technically possible, our surgeons performs the surgery through smaller incisions. This type of surgery is more aesthetic and reduces blood loss, trauma and length of hospital stay.

Valve Repare Surgery

If your valve can be repaired, our surgeons will perform a type of valve repair procedure (commissurotomy, decalcification, reshape leaflets, etc.)
The mitral valve is the most commonly repaired valve, but the aortic, pulmonic and tricuspid valves may also undergo some of these repair techniques.

Valve Replacement

If your valve cannot be repaired, our doctors will replace the valve. Normally patients below 65 years of age receive a mechanical prosthesis while patients above 70 years of age receive a biological prosthesis. For the patients who are between 65 and 70, the optimal or preferred choice is discussed with the patient.
